Interview with the great NFT artist and art studio founder.
Welcome to the KiwiNFT interview, our new special column where we showcase both emerging and established artists. Today we have a very special guest, a great NFT artist and founder of the international art studio. Ladies and gentlemens, greeds Matteo Mauro.
Matteo Mauro Studio is an Award-Winning Contemporary Art Studio. Collected and exhibited by Grand Palais, Datong Museum, Royal Academy LDN, Dubai Ing-Creatives... Author of the worldwide distributed book "Micromegalic Inscriptions"
In this interview, he shares how and why he got in NFTs, where he finds inspirations for doing art, his impressions of the NFT space and its future, and many other interesting things.
The first time we heard of Non-Fungible Tokens was back in 2018, thanks to a friend of ours, an IT professional and technology enthusiast who advised us to use NFTs as certificates of authenticity for our physical artworks but not as collectibles. Regrettably, we took some time to listen to his advice and started planning our NFT journey in 2020.
2. Why did you decide to join the NFT party?
The NFT world is something that day by day grew till it captivated us, both for his great artists’ panorama, and his prolific market who allows digital artworks to be traded and enjoyed with ease and security.
3. What is inspiring you?
Our creative process starts with the research and the study of the classical standards. New and old painting and drawing technologies are our main areas of interest. Of course, the infinite scrutiny of successful NFTs in the various marketplaces, are also leading artists to new ways of representing and animating their thoughts, as if a new crypto-art style is becoming a leading art style too, where artists influence and inspire each other.
4. What is the major difference between CryptoArt and all the other art?
There is still very little known at this time to answer this question since crypto art is a too recent movement. However, from our experience, we feel no differences at all when approaching a crypto-art project compared to a physical art project. We are often driven by the same creative process and apply the same rules. Technically they may sound like different worlds, but to us, it is still Art. We express ourselves with the tools we are given.
5. What makes an artist successful in the CryptoArt scene?
The crypto art scene is becoming every day bigger and more competitive. To be successful artists should have a great idea, a good understanding of the community, and a huge commitment to do well. There is an important “viral” component in the NFT scene, so once you get noticed, everything gets easier. But the simple formula is; having a suitable strategy and working with passion.
6. Who are your favourite artists in the NFT space?
In this realm, what we observe are some exceptional works. Just to name a few artists, we appreciate the old school of 2000s digital art who joined the space, Refik Anadol, and so on… But also artists with new aesthetics such as Chris Nyan Cat. We’re sometimes skeptical about the visual appealing of some collectibles, but we are artistically mind-blown about the ideas behind the Larvalab projects. We love the visually addicting power of Crypto-Punks and also like the smiling Coolcats.
7. What is the future of NFTs?
Hard to say. It is a fast-growing scene and market. There will be lots of surprises and amazing projects coming out of it. NFT technology will extend beyond art and to our everyday life. We don’t exactly know-how, but we feel it will.
8.Give please one piece of advice for artists who are only starting with NFTs?
Market value is not a good meter for quality. So don’t discourage if your art is not selling like the one in the NFT top news. Take your time to find your own language, study the best artists in history and in the current scene and try to figure out what makes them as distinguished as they are. Don’t rush just because you see the possibility to make quick money. Money doesn't give long-lasting happiness, Art does.
9.Where can collectors buy your work or know more about it?
Currently, there are different ways to find us on the internet. Definitely, Twitter or Instagram searching for Matteo Mauro Studio. Currently, our main selling platform is Foundation. We also have a private section for collectors on our website:
